Rock instrumentals are a favorite part of that genre for me and “Teen Beat” by Sandy Nelson is one of the best. 🙂 It’s upbeat. 😎 It’s got a great, rockin’ melody. 😎 And it’s supercool. 😎

Released in 1959, “Teen Beat” continues to be a favorite among rock connoisseurs, especially those who love that strong drumbeat. 😎

Sandy Nelson makes excellent use of the full drum set, including the sticks and rims. 😎

“Teen Beat” catches the attention from the very first note. The deeper beats set off the snare drum’s part to perfection. The way Sandy Nelson plays it, as well as the recording of it in the studio, lends the tune a multi-dimensional sound that is fascinating to listen to. 😎

The full range of the drum set is apparent throughout the song as the volume rises and falls appropriately in melody. It’s pretty cool. 🙂

Sandy Nelson has so much going on that you find yourself asking, “Is that truly one individual playing one set of drums?!” That’s how it is with great drummers. 😎

Before a minute is up, the guitar decides to claim some attention for itself and does a fine job joining in on this supercool tune. It’s a good addition to the song, although the drums are what I most want to hear. The guitar does play an important part and the song wouldn’t be the same without it.

The pace is now faster, the uptempo bringing greater volume along with it. This song is a solid piece, never failing to lay down a good beat.

I enjoy the crashing cymbals as well as the shimmering cymbals. Both sounds are essential. 😎

Halfway through the song, the volume drops back down to a more subtle level, comparatively 😉 , with some really cool sounds that you truly need to hear for yourself. 🙂

The different levels and sections of the song are really cool. Each is key and sounds great all on their own yet run so smoothly into the next section that it brings it all together into one solid song that no one wants to end. 😎

The part right before Sandy Nelson does the big close of the song is supercool; have you heard it? 🙂 If not, I recommend you check it out; “Teen Beat” is one great instrumental whose place in music is holding steady and rockin’ onward. 😎
