Supercool Music: A Living Article© Part 77: “The Duke of Earl”

Of songs that stand out as something special, timeless and stop-you-in-your-tracks good, “The Duke of Earl” by Gene Chandler is one of the best! 🙂 His singing is spectacular, as is his live performances of the song. 😎 The lyrics, music, production, engineering, every aspect of the recording of it is excellent. 😎

Instantly recognizable from the very opening notes, this song catches and holds your musical attention from start to finish. The melody, the sound of each instrument – including a beautifully played sax – and the music of Gene Chandler’s voice are all impressive.

The character in the song tells of walking through this world, nothing can stop him. The abiding love of a good woman gives a man great strength. She gives him power; he uses that power to cherish her.

He tells of the unstoppable power of his love for her – no one can hurt her. She’s his girl. Love is a powerful thing; God is love. He has given us so many examples of what true love is like. The special love that a man and a woman have for each other, when they are true loves, is a beautiful and powerful thing. Both the man and the woman share their joys, protect each other from hurt as much as they can, help give one another courage, whether things are going well in the world or not. Together they are strong, lending a feeling of unstoppable good. Faith in the Creator makes that feeling real. 😎

Gene sings of the paradise they will share and the love he has for her. ❤ ❤

The song tells how he’s the “Duke of Earl” and, when he holds her, she will be his “Duchess of Earl”. Being held in the arms of someone you love and who also loves you is a powerful thing, so wonderful, mighty in healing, comforting, makes your heart feel like it’s soaring up to the sky. Nothing like it. 🙂

The chorus is sung again after a beautiful series of vocalizations by Gene; this song is supercool! 🙂

“The Duke of Earl” is a greatly loved song. Gene Chandler’s vocals are exquisite. He makes this song the treasure it is. 😎
